Fans of Palace will likely have been supporting the solo guise of the band's ex-bassist, William Dorey, for some time. Currently on album number four, praise has been thrown at the unarguably talented outlier from various corners of the music press, despite the fact he remains elusive in terms of both live shows and anything close to the traditional publicity circus. A man doing things very much on his own terms. "I Didn't Know" is a two-track, or rather two-version single release taken from that last LP. A song that feels out of time - oozing 1960s trippy folk-esque trappings - and yet beyond any notions of trend or era. Packed with wonderful musicality, from string harmonies to acoustic guitar-set rhythms, it's as nice as it is accomplished and universally accessible.
